A winter wonderland

We woke up this morning to this....

This is a huge snowfall for November.  It came from the U.S. and I think of all those poor people who are travelling for American Thanksgiving tomorrow.  This will play havoc with the airports, to say nothing of the roads!!
But isn't it beautiful?! This is our shed at the bottom of the garden - It looks like someone just planted a perfect layer of snow on the roof.

Remember the big maple tree I mentioned that is in our front garden? Well here it is in all its flocked glory!! Leaves are long gone I'm afraid.

I'm not sure how much we got, but from the look of Wendell's car, I would say about a good 25-30cm.

Our front porch looks even more "Christmassy" now.

These were my footprints as I went out to take some photos. I don't know if you can really see how deep this snow really was!

Merry Christmas everyone!

We leave for Toronto tomorrow to go and spend a few days with Adam & Alicia.  The roads will be fine by then and we are looking forward to a nice visit.

    1. Actually Anne, you'll be surprised to know that quite often it gets milder when it snows here. It's almost like an insulation on the ground! It's been hovering about 0 degrees celsius all day, which is warmer than it's been all week. We actually celebrated Canadian Thanksgiving which is early October, but thanks for the good wishes.

  2. I hope that you have a great trip to Toronto Julie. The snow looks so beautiful, your shed looks as though someone has laid a very carefully cut (very thick!) piece of quilt batting over the roof, and all of your porch decorations are lovely - especially your wreath. Happy travels. xx

    1. What a great description of the shed roof Amy! I like that imagery obviously. We will take it easy on the drive down tomorrow. Thanks for the good wishes. I will draw a name for the giveaway after we get back.

  3. Lovely photos, Julie. That's the same storm that came through here over the weekend. As I understand it, the storm only got worse as it plowed across the country! I hope you have a lovely visit and safe travels.

  4. What beautiful photos, I love the first bit of snow, when it's still all white and crisp.

  6. Wintry yes, but as I said in an earlier reply to Anne, not too cold! It's quite amazing how the snow tends to insulate the ground and it is much warmer than it's been all week. Now, that doesn't always happen in February!

  7. Lovely photos all nice and clean looking, I love the snow but it does tend to cause trouble everywhere, its fine as long as you don't have to travel. xx

    1. I love it too, when I don't have to go anywhere. But I especially love it when it's freshly fallen. Like you say, everywhere looks so clean.

  8. Hi Julie, thanks so much for your comment at my blog. Wow, that is a lot of snow! Here in the UK that would be considered a very big snow fall and the country would grind to a halt for a few days, so bad are we at dealing with cold weather here...

  9. I guess it's what you're used to. In Toronto this amount would cause way more disruption than it would here in Ottawa. We are pretty equipped to deal with it.

  10. It looks beautiful but that amount of snow causes chaos over here! I have emailed you with some photographs. x
