Just mailed off the baby quilt to its new home. I chose a striped fabric for the binding which incorporated all the colours in the quilt. Our local quilting shop has a sale on this week and I found a panel of labels, so decided to use one of those this time.
I did very simple quilting on it as I am not one for free motion quilting! I am pleased with how it turned out and plan on making a lot more items this year.
Do any of you read Rhonda's blog? I have been enjoying her writings for a long time now and bought her book a while back and have finally made the time to read it. I am enjoying it very much. While we have no desire to have chickens and such, I very much want to live a simpler life, spend less and get back to basics. Rhonda is an inspiration and I recommend her blog to anyone wanting to make this change.
Off now to have a read at what everyone has been up to!
The quilt is really beautiful, Julie. What a luck baby boy. I love the fabrics you used and the binding is perfect. I am also a long-time reader of Rhonda's blog and I have always enjoyed her perspective. I feel very good about my choices knowing that she is a proponent of the same lifestyle. She seems to really have it together. I haven't read her book, though, so I would like to check it out soon.
ReplyDeleteThank Jennifer. Rhonda's book is really good. It's not available yet in North America, but I had it shipped from Australia because I just couldn't wait to read it. It is supposed to come here soon though. Defnitely worth the read!
DeleteRhonda's blog was one of the first I followed when I joined blogland. I am in awe of her much of the time. Wish I had it together like her!
ReplyDeleteHaven't read her book. Is it worth buying?
lovely quilt!
Gill
I would highly recommend her book Gill. Don't know if it's available in the UK, but she said it should be more widely available in the future.
DeleteBeautiful quilt Julie! I am sure that it will be well loved and used for many years to come. The labels are a lovely touch as well, especially on something like this that needs to be washable! xx
ReplyDeleteThanks Amy. I love handmade gifts and always appreciate the effort that has gone into them. I hope it is loved.
DeleteWhat a lovely quilt, and the label is beautiful. A really nice finishing touch. I always mean to do labels for my quilts, but so far I've not got around to it.
ReplyDeleteThank you CJ. It was a very simple one to make and I enjoyed doing it.
DeleteThe quilt is beautiful Julie. The binding picks up all the colours so well - it was the perfect choice. After seeing the label on the quilt you made for Rebekah and Alex, I put hand embroidered labels on the quilts I made for Christmas gifts - the girls were thrilled with them.
ReplyDeleteI was a regular reader of Down to Earth a few years ago and posted on the forum too. Now I dip in and out of it. Does the book just contain all the things that can be found on the blog, or is there something new in it?
Thanks Scarlet. I love the binding fabric too. Rhonda's blog probably has most of the stuff in her book, but I love to sit and read a book! I am only part way through, so can't answer that fully, but I sure like her style! She really is "down to earth" and I would love to meet her and pick her brain! Would love to see your hand embroidered labels.
DeleteJulie, it is absolutely gorgeous. I'm sure they will be thrilled to receive it. I also spied your bed cover! Did you do that too? Its beautiful XX
ReplyDeleteHi Anne. I'm afraid I can't take credit for the bed cover. I bought it a few years ago before I started sewing again, from a lady in the UK on Ebay who makes them. I actually have a few and I love them all. They are literally a duvet cover which goes over a cheap Ikea duvet. Because our beds here are so much larger than yours, I just use it as an eiderdown and place it across our bed. We have a silk lined duvet, but sometimes on the really cold winter nghts it is nice to have the extra weight. We turn our heat down to 15 degrees at night and always sleep with the window open. I love the pastel colours in it. Hope you're both keeping well and healthy. XX
DeleteHow lovely, I think the colours in this are great - perfect for a baby, nice and bright.
ReplyDeleteNow off to check out Rhonda's blog :)
I have made pale baby colours on quilts before, but I wanted this one to be nice and bright. Thanks for your comments Emma.
